FAQ Courses at the Department of Economics at the University of Mannheim
Students at the Alfred Weber Institute can also take courses at the University of Mannheim as part of a cooperation agreement with the Department of Economics there.

Which courses can I take?
The cooperation covers (i) only courses offered by the Department of Economics at the University of Mannheim and (ii) only elective courses (specialization area). The cooperation applies to both bachelor's and master's degrees.

Courses in the Faculty of Business Administration cannot be taken as part of the cooperation.
What do I need to do to attend courses in Mannheim?
In order to register for exams and access the student portal, you need a Mannheim matriculation number and a student ID. Both can be obtained from the Student Office.
How are ECTS credits transferred?
Even though advanced courses in Heidelberg always have 6 or 8 ECTS credits, the credits from Mannheim are not adjusted. This means that if, for example, you complete a bachelor's seminar with 7 ECTS credits in Mannheim, this will also be credited in Heidelberg.
What happens if I fail?
Since the results are to be considered equivalent to results achieved in Heidelberg, failed attempts are also taken into account and will be transferred.
Can I choose which credits from Mannheim will be transferred?
No, all credits and grades will be transferred.
Can I also write my thesis in Mannheim?
Yes, bachelor's or master's theses can also be supervised and assessed by a professor from the Department of Economics at the University of Mannheim. Please note, however, that there may be requirements set by the supervisors, so please read the relevant websites.
Are the results transmitted automatically?
In order for your grades to appear in your heiCO account, the AWI Examination Office must receive a transcript of records from Mannheim. If you are unable to download a verifiable transcript of records yourself, please contact the Student Office.
