FAQ Length of Study

IS THERE A MAXIMUM DURATION OF STUDIES IN THE M.SC. ECONOMICS PROGRAM?

No, in the M.Sc. Economics program, there is no restriction on the duration of study after passing 16 ECTS in economics modules by the end of the second semester.

However, once all modules except for the master's thesis have been passed, i.e., 90 ECTS have been earned, the master's thesis must be started promptly (see §14 Examination Regulations M.Sc. Economics).

Is there a maximum duration of study or study time limit?

After passing the orientation exam (in the B.Sc. Economics), there is no limit to the length of study as long as the student is eligible to take exams.

Can in complete the program in less than 6 (Bachelor)/4 (Master) semesters?

Yes, there is no regulated minimum duration of study—neither in the Bachelor's program in Economics nor in the M.Sc. Economics program. You can therefore earn more than the approximately 30 ECTS per semester specified in the curriculum, and thus complete your degree in less time.
However, please note that the program is designed to last 6 or 4 semesters and that the (compulsory) courses in the corresponding semesters build on each other in terms of content.
